About Steve Ouellette

A lifetime of local service. A practical voice for the 8th Bristol.

Rooted in the South Coast

Steve Ouellette has built his public life around service — listening to neighbors, solving practical problems, and working with people across differences. His experience in municipal government, public safety, and the trades gives him a grounded understanding of the issues facing working families, schools, seniors, and local communities.

A lifelong resident of Westport, Steve has spent decades as one of the South Coast's most active community leaders. Before joining the Massachusetts House of Representatives, he served nine terms on the Westport Select Board — building deep ties across the communities of the 8th Bristol District while raising his family here on the South Coast.

A background in service

Steve's commitment to public service started early. He served as a Call Firefighter and Reserve Police Officer in Westport, giving him firsthand experience with the people who keep communities safe and the systems that support them. Alongside his public safety work, Steve built a career in facilities management and the skilled trades — a practical, hands-on foundation that continues to shape how he approaches government.

In local leadership, Steve founded and chaired the Economic Development Task Force and the Infrastructure Oversight Committee, served as a Commissioner and Executive Board member of the Southeast Regional Planning & Economic Development agency (SRPEDD), and chaired the Bristol County Selectmen's Association — building the regional relationships that have helped him deliver for the 8th Bristol since joining the State House.

A practical approach to government

At the State House, Steve serves on five committees: Joint Committee on Agriculture & Fisheries; Joint Committee on Emergency Preparedness & Management; Joint Committee on Advanced Information Technology; House Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs; and the House Committee on Post Audit & Oversight. These assignments reflect his focus on practical governance, regional coordination, and the industries that define the South Coast.

Steve's approach is simple: listen to constituents, work with colleagues across the aisle when necessary, and focus on results that people can see and feel. Since being elected, he has secured state funding for infrastructure projects including a new well at the Westport transfer station, structural repairs at Acushnet Elementary School, HVAC improvements at the Acushnet Council on Aging, and lighting and security upgrades at Freetown's town beach.

Why re-election matters

Experience matters in state government. Representatives who build relationships and learn the system over time are able to deliver more for their districts. Steve is asking for the opportunity to continue that work — to keep the 8th Bristol's voice at the State House and to keep delivering practical results for the communities he serves.
